We understand it is hard to differentiate between CrossFit and a regular gym and you may be unsure whether it’s right for you.

We also know that from the outside looking in CrossFit can be intimidating.

Loud music, people shouting and everyone sprawled on the floor at the end of a workout gasping for air may be the stereotypical image of CrossFit but the truth paints a different picture and there is actually a lot more to it than that. Everyone is truly welcoming from the moment you step in the door and our coaches are there to support you in achieving your goals.

You may also think you have to be fit to start CrossFit but this is simply not the case. We have people from all walks of life and varying fitness abilities at Atlantic Way CrossFit so the best time to start is always NOW.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

You will run through a normal CrossFit class with our regular members.

Introduction – All members gather around the whiteboard where the coach talks through the class ahead, describes movements, offers scaling options and enquires about possible injuries or concerns participants may have.

Warm up/Mobility – The whole class is taken through an extensive warm up, preparing the body for the work demand ahead and you may even start sweating at this point!

Strength/Skill Component – Most days the class will go through a strength or skill learning component which can be anything from back squats, deadlifts, olympic lifting, pull ups, handstands, rope climbs or many other exercises. Once again this is led by the coach and all movements can be scaled to suit the ability of the individual.

Workout (WOD) – The coach demonstrates the movements involved in the workout and discusses the flow of the class. The coach will ensure everyone is happy with the movements and offer scaling options where needed. The workout can last from 2 to 35 minutes but rest assured at every session you will work to YOUR maximum.

Cool down/Mobility – After all the equipment has been put away the coach will run a cool down session where appropriate stretches are completed. This is a chance for the members and the coach to catch up with each other about the workout they just faced.
